Antonia Gonzales is the anchor and producer of National Native News, an award-winning nationally syndicated radio program which airs daily on tribal and public radio stations across the United States and Canada. On National Native News, Antonia covers social, economic and cultural issues which impact Indigenous people worldwide. In a conversation with Matt Ehlman, Antonia will talk about the importance of indigenous people writing and sharing their own stories, how mentoring youth, and Native youth in particular, can engage them in journalism, and how her career has shaped her views and perspective.

Antonia started as an Associate Producer for Koahnic Broadcasting's nationally syndicated talk show Native America Calling. Before that position, she was a television reporter for a CBS affiliate in Southeastern New Mexico. She is a former board member of the Native American Journalists Association (NAJA), which serves and empowers Native journalists.

Antonia received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of New Mexico and minored in Native American Studies. She credits her mentor there, Conroy Chino, with helping her realize her passion and interest in journalism.

Antonia is a member of the Navajo Nation and grew up in Arizona and New Mexico. She lives in Albuquerque with her husband and two sons.

Antonia is warm and engaging and intelligent and this came through in her answers. It’s so important to talk about positive stories versus negative stories. Indigenous people need a voice and need to be heard!
