Walter Woods

Walter Woods is the CEO of the Humana Foundation in Louisville, Kentucky, which has a mission of helping eight targeted communities in the southeast become exemplars of health equity where leadership, culture, and systems work to improve and sustain positive health outcomes for their residents.

Currently, he is overseeing the foundation’s $50 million coronavirus relief and recovery effort. The commitment is the largest in the foundation’s 38-year history and is focused on investing in organizations that support essential workers, food security, behavioral health and community-based organizations.

The Humana Foundation works in deep collaboration with partner organizations in all sectors to address the social determinants of health that shape health outcomes at the community and individual level. Walter’s passion is in inspiring others to inspire themselves. He has over 25 years of social development experience working both with and for younger and older adults in America. Prior to assuming the CEO role of the Humana Foundation, Walter served as president of the Good Samaritan Foundation, and in leadership positions with the AARP Foundation, The World Bank Group, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, and the American Gas Association.

Walter has an MBA from Northwestern University–J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, a bachelor’s degree from Howard University, and completed the Executive Program for Nonprofit Leaders from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.
